CFU is hosting the open house to thank the hundreds of families and businesses who backed the project by purchasing solar units. Stop by any time during the open house to see the solar garden up close and learn how it contributes to our city’s energy mix.

Service displays will feature CFU’s energy efficiency cost-sharing programs. Learn about shade tree funding that CFU provides for homeowners through Cedar Falls TREES, and take home a free red oak sapling to plant while supplies last.

Bring the kids and help them climb into the cabs of utility trucks and construction vehicles in our Touch a Truck area.

Kids can build a model solar car, test the best blade for a wind turbine, and measure their own personal "wind power" with help from UNI’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education.

Lunch will be served throughout the event starting at 10:30, and a brief ribbon cutting program will start at 11:00.

No parking will be available in Prairie Lakes Park, so we’ve arranged plenty of parking just a short walk from the event site. Golf cart shuttles will transport guests with limited mobility.

Solar Energy Credits Start This Month

The Prairie Lakes solar garden started producing energy April 1. If you own one or more Simple Solar units, you’ll receive a solar credit on your electric bill starting this month and continuing for 20 years. Visit cfu.net/solar to see a display of the solar garden’s real time output and cumulative energy production.
