Hy-Vee recently completed a large-scale lighting conversion with the help of the Cedar Falls Utilities rebate program. The store converted more than 1,300 indoor fluorescent lamps to LED. This project is one example of how the community is working to save energy.
“Our goal is two-fold,” says Jamie Franck, Store Director of the Cedar Falls Hy-Vee. “We not only want to do our part in the community to reduce energy consumption, but we know it will also help us cut costs.”
LED lights use less energy than traditional fluorescent lamps. The store will save a total of 386,630 kilowatt hours annually. This is enough electricity to power 35 Cedar Falls homes for one year.
The project will pay for itself in energy savings in 4.7 years. Additionally, as a CFU customer, Hy-Vee was able to take advantage of the commercial rebate program to help with the cost of the conversion.
CFU’s local Trustees know how important reducing energy consumption is to the residents of Cedar Falls. Wise energy choices help us keep utility costs low for our residents and reduce our carbon footprint. This is why CFU continues to offer cost-sharing rebates.
