CFU Retires Analog Channels

Posted on Friday, December 27, 2019

1/15/20 Update: We have started to shut off the analog TV signals. The shut off is being completed in phases to make sure we have staff available to respond to customer questions and service calls. We will continue to retire the analog signals for groups of customers throughout the coming week. If you need TV tech support or have any questions please call our Help Desk at 319-268-5221 from 6 a.m. to midnight weekdays and 8 a.m. to midnight weekends.

After January 14, analog channels will no longer be available on CFU TV as we work to modernize our cable system. CFU will continue to offer digital and high definition (HD) channels.

Analog is an outdated technology and creates inefficiencies within the CFU cable system. Space currently required to send an analog signal could be used to send three HD channels.

By retiring analog channels, CFU will have the necessary resources for future system upgrades and technological advancements.

Customers previously watching analog channels will notice digital channels provide superior picture and sound quality.

If you experience issues with your cable service after January 14, it is most likely due to one of two issues:

You have an analog TV plugged directly into the cable outlet

You will need a digital tuner to watch digital channels on an analog TV.

CFU will provide one free digital tuner per customer for 12 months. Call 319-268-5283 to receive a tuner and resume service.

You have your flat-screen TV programmed to analog channels

If you plug your flat-screen TV directly into the cable outlet (with no equipment) you will now need to tune to digital (QAM) channels. These are the channels with a decimal point and provide a clear digital signal. For example, ESPN is 74.3.

Visit cfu.net/channels to print and bookmark an up-to-date channel guide with the digital channel numbers. Or call customer service at 319-268-5280 to have a new channel guide mailed to you.
