Save Money on LED Bulbs with Be Bright

Posted on Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Lighting costs typically make up about 20% of your electric bill. You can save energy and money with a simple switch to LED light bulbs.

An Energy Star LED bulb lasts 10 to 25 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs. Just one LED bulb will save you an average of $40 or more in electricity costs over its lifetime. LEDs are now available in many colors, including a warm white. And, unlike CFLs, they turn on instantly.

In 2017, CFU wants to make it easier to switch to LED light bulbs. We’re expanding the opportunity for our customers to purchase light bulbs through the point-of-purchase Be Bright Program.

To save, go to a local participating retailer and look for the Be Bright label on the shelves in the lighting department. CFU provides a discount on the purchase price on the spot. With Be Bright, there are no rebates, no paperwork and no hassles.

The Be Bright label on the shelf is your sign that the bulb is discounted and you are purchasing an Energy Star bulb. Energy Star certification means thatthe bulb has met industry standards for quality and efficiency.

Cedar Falls retailers include O’Donnell Ace Hardware, Target, Wal-Mart and Menards.

Throughout 2017, customers will notice the number of LED bulbs eligible for the Be Bright discount growing at local retailers.

With the expansion of the Be Bright program, the mail in rebate that CFU previously offered for LED light bulbs ended December 31, 2016.

If you purchased LED bulbs in 2016 and have not yet submitted your rebate forms and proofs of purchase, please submit to CFU by March 31, 2017 to be eligible for the discontinued rebate. The CFU rebate for LED can lights will continue in 2017. For details, visit
