CFU Will Sunset TV Service as Customers Embrace Better Value in Streaming

At Cedar Falls Utilities, our mission is to provide world-class services that bring the best value to the community. As part of our strategy to focus on the services that bring the most value to our customers, CFU will end our cable TV service in October 2026.

CFU is committed to continuing to deliver fast, affordable and dependable internet service to help support your entertainment choices.

"This decision was not made lightly and we understand it will be an adjustment for some customers," says Susan Abernathy, CFU General Manager.

"More than 30 years ago when we launched cable TV, we were proud to provide our community with a low-cost, high-quality service that telecommunications companies at the time wouldn't build in a community of our size. Since then, the industry has evolved and many high-quality TV options are available to customers. Moving forward, we remain focused on providing our community with exceptional internet service that empowers customers to not only stream TV but work, learn and connect," adds Susan.

Why We're Making this Change

Streaming services now dominate the entertainment space, offering more flexibility, broader content and better technology than traditional cable. Major sporting events and hit shows are increasingly available only through subscriptions to streaming platforms.

At the same time, the cost of traditional cable TV has soared. Content providers continue to raise fees, while contract restrictions limit the features we can offer.

As a result, traditional cable TV can no longer compete, either in price or in quality, with streaming options powered by access to ultra-fast internet like what is available through our all-fiber network.

Most of our customers have already made the move to streaming. And for those who haven’t, now is the time to consider a switch. Many customers currently paying for cable TV could save more than $40 per month by switching to a service like YouTube TV, while still enjoying live sports, news and their favorite shows.

What It Means for You

CFU TV customers have received notices in the mail that outline the decision and how to make a smooth transition to streaming TV services. Visit cfu.net/TV for more information about this transition and to access streaming recommendations that pair
seamlessly with CFU internet.

CFU’s purpose remains the same: to deliver excellent value and outstanding local service. As more homes rely on strong internet connections to power entertainment, communication and productivity, CFU is uniquely positioned to meet those needs now and into the future. We continue to invest in our community-owned, all-fiber network and provide you with world-class internet service.

CFU TV Customers

CFU cable TV will end on October 11, 2026. You can switch to a new TV provider at any time and we’re here to help make that transition easy. Please call us at 319-268-5400 when you are ready to cancel your TV service.

In 2025, customers who cancel TV but keep (or add) CFU internet will receive a discount of $27.50 per month for three months. That means our most popular internet tier, Fiber Home, will cost just $30/month for three months.
