Pay Your Utility Bill by Choosing a Free Payment Method; Card Fee to Increase January 1

The vendor responsible for processing customer credit card transactions will increase the processing fee to $5.95 per utility bill payment on January 1, 2027.

Customers Continue to Have Free Payment Options

Customers will continue to have multiple free payment options available. We encourage selecting one of the following options to avoid the increased fee.

  • Automatic payments from a savings or checking account
  • One-time payments from your bank account through the CFU Online Utility Account dashboard
  • Payment through your financial institution via internet banking, bill pay, EFT or bank check
  • Payment with check, cash or money order made by mail, deposited in our drop box or completed at the Customer Service counter

Increased Fee After January 1

After the new year, each utility bill payment (up to $1,000) made with a card will incur a convenience fee of $5.95. (The current fee is $5.25 per payment.)

This will apply to customers who choose to pay their utility bill with a credit card, debit card or e-Check both online and over the phone.

The fee will now also apply to customers who choose to pay with a credit or debit card at the counter in the Customer Service Office.

The fee is charged by an independent payment provider and covers third party processing fees. CFU does not receive any portion of this fee.

Learn more about our available utility bill payment options by visiting cfu.net/payments. If you have questions about the card processing fee or other billing questions, please call CFU Customer Service at 319-268-5280.
