CFU Customers Benefit from Local Utility Staff

CFU is a local, community-owned utility which means employees live locally and work to provide service to friends and neighbors.

"At CFU, we take pride in the level of service we provide," says Susan Abernathy, CFU General Manager.

"When you are providing utility services to your friends and neighbors, it's personal. That shared connection is what drives us to deliver the safe, reliable and affordable services you can count on."

Recently, a tree fell into power lines along Tremont Street at around 6 p.m. resulting in a power outage for the surrounding 100 homes.

As a municipal utility, CFU crews live and work locally. This means our Electric Utility crews were able to respond quickly, assess the damage and get power restored within 52 minutes.

“We know how important reliable power is to our community,” says Kurt Dralle, Electric Construction and Line Supervisor.

“We continuously reinvest into our electric infrastructure and move power lines underground when possible to limit power outages. But when you have high winds or lightning or a squirrel that causes an issue, we respond quickly to make sure that outage is resolved and power is restored as quickly as possible.”

Last year, power was available to CFU customers 99.999% of the time. When customers did experience an outage, CFU crews restored power quickly and efficiently.

In 2025, the average outage lasted just 69 minutes with power restored 51 minutes faster than the national average.

“Customers count on us to provide these important resources they need to live,” says Kurt.

“We know the work we do to ensure reliable and safe services is for our friends and family in the community and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.”
