Posted on Wednesday, June 28, 2017

The Cedar Falls Utilities Board of Trustees named Steve Bernard the next general manager of
CFU at their June meeting.

Bernard, a Cedar Falls native, currently serves as the Director of Customer Service and Business Development at CFU.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer.

He has been with the organization for 21 years in multiple roles. During his tenure at CFU, he has also served as the Key Accounts Program Administrator and the Manager of Water and Gas Operations.

Before working at Cedar Falls Utilities, Bernard held engineering and leadership positions at Northern States Power Company (now XCEL Energy), an investor-owned utility in Wisconsin and at The Trane Company, a worldwide manufacturer of air conditioning systems.

"I’m excited to work with our employees to continue CFU’s tradition of innovative products and excellent service," commented Steve. "Cedar Falls is a wonderful community and we at CFU are proud to be part of it."

The Board of Trustees conducted a national search to fill the general manager post.

Bernard will replace Jim Krieg, who is retiring at the end of this year after 15 years of service as general manager. "We had many good candidates who applied for the general manager position," said Jeff Engel, CFU Board of Trustees Chair.

"We are confident that Steve has the knowledge and skills necessary to lead our organization."

"Steve has served in diverse leadership roles at CFU and he has strong relationships internally and throughout the community. His abilities and experience make him the best candidate to help Cedar Falls Utilities continue to provide excellent service and value to
our customers.
