Move Over Iowa Law Expanded

Posted on Thursday, July 26, 2018

Drivers must now move over or face the risk of being ticketed. Effective July 1, the “Move Over, Slow Down” state law has been expanded to include ANY vehicle with a flashing or hazard light activated.

Governor Kim Reynolds signed the expansion into law this April to protect the safety and welfare of motorists, emergency responders and utility workers on Iowa’s roadways.

When drivers come upon a vehicle on the side of the road with either flashing or hazard lights, the law requires the driver to change lanes. If unable to move over, the driver should slow down and be prepared to stop if necessary. The fine for not abiding by the law is $100 plus fees.

Many CFU trucks are on roadways this summer, performing their duties in high traffic areas. It is important to take a few extra minutes to take the necessary precautions to ensure everyone stays safe.
