CFU Cable TV Ends Sunday

October 9, 2026

As previously communicated, Cedar Falls Utilities will stop offering cable TV service Sunday, October 11.

We understand this may not be an easy transition and recognize that it may be difficult for some customers to find a replacement service.

As your local utility, we are part of this community and care about our customers. We are here to provide information and support.

We're Here to Help

  • CFU TV service will end automatically after Sunday, October 11. Billing for TV will also stop automatically after this time. You do not need to contact CFU to end TV service. If you have set-top boxes, they can be returned for recycling at our office on 1 Utility Parkway. There is no deadline for returning your TV equipment, so please do so whenever it is convenient for you.
  • CFU will be unable to provide any TV service after October 11. After this date, the equipment CFU uses to receive and deliver television programming will be decommissioned, our programming contracts will expire and we will no longer be able to provide TV service.
  • Visit cfu.net/stream for help in choosing another TV option. You have many great TV options. Many streaming platforms now offer live TV, sports and on-demand content at a significantly lower cost than traditional cable TV. For step-by-step instructions to switch to a streaming TV provider and resources for recommended streaming options, visit our resource center at cfu.net/stream.
  • Call our local support team for help. Call us at 319-268-5400 and someone can help walk you through available TV options. Staff is available Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Maintain your reliably fast internet plan with CFU for the best TV streaming experience. Although CFU will no longer provide TV service, we’re continuing to invest in and upgrade our all-fiber network to deliver world-class internet to our community. If you do not currently have a CFU internet plan, we’d be happy to get you connected! Our Internet Sales team is available at 319-268-5283 and can help you choose the best plan and schedule your free installation. (Learn more about available CFU internet plans here.)

Why We're Making This Change

  • CFU is unable to provide the same quality of TV programming you previously enjoyed. The cable television landscape has changed dramatically in recent years. With the rise of streaming services and on demand platforms, many of the most popular shows and games are not available on cable TV.
  • More customers have chosen flexible, internet-based entertainment options over traditional cable TV. Large, national streaming services have technological advantages that CFU will not be able to match. For example, streaming services like YouTube TV let you watch shows outside of your home, a feature that CFU TV and other traditional cable providers are restricted from offering.
  • We can no longer provide a TV service at a price that is reasonable or provides value for our customers. The cost to distribute cable TV has continued to increase, driven by rising content fees and complex agreements with network owners. Many of our customers have already made the switch to streaming TV.
