Understanding Your Energy Bill
Higher market costs do not affect CFU’s base rates, which include infrastructure and administrative costs.
Understanding Your Electric Bill
Electric rates are made up of CFU's base rates and a non-base rate which is the Net Energy Cost Adjustment.

CFU Electric Base Rate
Basic Service Charge - The basic service charge covers CFU’s costs like meter reading, customer services, billing, service calls and meter maintenance.
Per KWH Base Rate - The base rate is charged per kilowatt-hour (KWH) used and covers the cost of CFU’s local distribution system, transmission costs and production costs.
Non-Base Rate
Net Energy Cost Adjustment - The non-base rate portion of your electric bill is the Net Energy Cost Adjustment and is a pass-through charge for the cost of energy.
CFU passes on to customers only the cost to produce or purchase electricity without markup through the Net Energy Cost Adjustment. This charge is adjusted each month to reflect the variability in the cost of fuel and purchased power and is applied to each kilowatt-hour of usage.
Understanding Your Natural Gas Bill
Natural gas rates are made up of CFU's base rates (the service charge and the delivery charge) and a non-base rate which is the Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA).

CFU Natural Gas Base Rate
Basic Service Charge - The basic service charge covers CFU’s costs like meter reading, customer services, billing, service calls and meter maintenance.
Delivery Charge - The delivery charge is per thousand cubic feet (MCF) of gas used and covers the cost of CFU’s natural gas distribution system and delivering gas to homes.
Non-Base Rate
Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) - The non-base rate portion of your natural gas bill is the Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) and is a pass-through charge for the cost of gas. CFU does not mark up what we pay for natural gas. If gas market costs go up or down, so does the PGA.
The purchased gas adjustment (PGA) reflects the cost of the natural gas commodity and its delivery to Cedar Falls. This component of the bill changes each month based on the wholesale price CFU pays for the gas it provides to customers. CFU does not mark up what we pay for natural gas. If gas market costs go up or down, so does the PGA.
