How to Use Parental Controls to Keep Your TV Kid-Friendly

Posted on Wednesday, January 27, 2016

CFU TV customers with a set-top box or DVR have free access to the interactive program guide and the On Demand menu. The program guide helps you easily navigate what’s on TV. You can access the guide by pressing the GUIDE button on your remote.

We want you to know that parental controls can be used to keep children from viewing program titles, shows and movies meant for adults.

From the Parental Controls menu, you can hide the titles of adult programs so they will not be displayed in the guide listings.

You can also block access to programs on TV or in the On Demand menu based on rating, channel, title or service.

To use parental controls, you will first set up a four-digit personal identification number (PIN). Press MENU on your remote control, then select the padlock icon. This will display the Parental Controls menu. The screen will prompt you to enter and confirm a PIN. After you’ve set up your PIN, the lock menu will be displayed.

Hide Adult Titles
Select Hide Titles to keep the titles of adult programs from being displayed on screen. Instead of the program title, the guide will say “Adult.”

Block Access By Rating
Select Movie/TV Rating Locks to block access by content ratings. Note that you can set up rating locks for movies or TV programs
or both.

Require PIN for On Demand Viewing or Movie Rentals
Select Service Locks to require that the PIN be entered before anyone can view any On Demand menus or programs. Select PINs Setup to restrict movie rentals. This option allows access to free content but prevents viewers from renting movies. You’ll be prompted to create a purchase PIN that must be entered before any movie rental order will go through.
