Why use Webmail
instead of e-mail client software such as
Windows Mail or Outlook?
CFU’s Webmail portal allows access your e-mail from any
computer or handheld device connected to the Internet. Your e-mails are stored
on a web-accessible server rather than on your home computer. In 2009, CFU
increased the amount of Webmail storage to 7.2 gigabytes per mailbox. With this
huge, free storage capacity, you can store virtually an unlimited number of
e-mail messages.
A major advantage of webmail is portability. All
your e-mail is available to you from anywhere. Also, when you get a new computer
or handheld, you don’t lose access to past e-mails and there is no need to set
up a new e-mail account. Even if you normally access e-mail through software on
your home computer, you can also use Webmail to send and receive messages when
you are away from home.
In the Webmail portal, groups of related messages
(series of messages and replies between a sender and recipient) are displayed on
only one line. A number at the end of the subject line indicates how many
related messages are grouped in that series, or thread, of e-mails. This keeps
the number of entries in your inbox more manageable, and makes it easy to find
all messages in an exchange on a particular topic.
Webmail users also have free use of Google Apps
(applications) for live text or video chat, document creation and web-based
document sharing and storage. The free Google calendar can be accessed from a
phone or computer. Contacts can also be stored on the web portal, so you will
never lose them when you get a new computer, cell phone or handheld device.
