Water Quality in the News

On December 20, 2010, CNN reported test results for chromium 6 levels in drinking water in a number of large U.S. cities. This report may have made you wonder how Cedar Falls drinking water compares. CFU tested for chromium in December of 2008. All results were <0.002 mg/l (miligrams per liter). Another chromium test will be performed in 2011. The CNN report said chromium is not regulated, but in fact EPA has established 0.10 PPB as the Maximum Contaminant Level for chromium. According to Test America, chromium 6 is detected by the test for total chromium and count against the overall MCL of 0.10. These results show Cedar Falls tap water has less than the allowable level of total chromium.
