Rate ComponentsThe residential electric rate is made up of three components: the service charge, the energy charge and the energy cost adjustment (ECA). Service Charge The service charge is applied on each metered service. This charge covers CFU's overhead costs associated with meter reading, customer services, billing, service calls, and meter maintenance. The monthly service charge for residential customers is $8.20. Energy Charge The energy charge is the amount you pay for each kilowatt hour used. The rate is broken up into two blocks with the rate per kilowatt hour declining with the higher block of consumption. The rate per kilowatt-hour (KWH) is also different for summer and winter. Rates First 800 KWH consumed: 8.1¢ per KWH All Over 800 KWH consumed: 6.3¢ per KWH (Winter, Oct-May) All Over 800 KWH consumed: 8.1¢ per KWH (Summer, June-Sept) Energy Cost Adjustment (ECA) 12-month ECA history CFU's power costs change each month due to variability in the cost of fuel and purchased power. The ECA adjusts monthly to pass CFU's power costs through to customers' bills. The ECA is a charge or credit applied to each kilowatt-hour of usage. How to Calculate Your Electric Costs If a residence consumed 1305 KWH during a winter month when the ECA was $.008/KWH, the electric bill would be calculated as follows: | Service Charge | $8.20 | | First 800 KWH X $0.081 | $64.80 | | Next 505 KWH X $0.063 | $31.81 | | ECA=$0.008/KWH | $10.44 | | Local Option Tax (1%) | $1.15 | | Total Cost: | $116.40 | Download Electric Rates
