Wind
power offers a number of advantages. Wind is the
most economical source of renewable power in Iowa.
It is not affected by the volatile price of natural
gas or coal. No greenhouse gases are emitted during
the wind power generation process. By adding wind
to its mix of power sources, CFU is also hedging
against the risk that power from coal could become
more expensive in the future, or that new environmental
regulations could require CFU to meet part of
the community’s electric needs with renewable
power.
Expanding CFU's use of renewable energy would
not be possible without the enthusiastic support
and financial commitment of CFU customers. Hundreds
of customers, who are committed to providing clean
air for the next generation, have voluntarily
contributed to this project.
You too can participate in CFU's Harvest the Wind
program. CFU customers who are committed to a
cleaner environment, a reduced dependence on fossil
fuels and the expansion of renewable energy sources
can volunteer now.
Customers can participate in supporting CFU's
use of renewable energy in blocks of 100 kilowatt
hours (kWh) at a cost of $2.50 per month, which
will be added to your monthly CFU bill. You may
support as many 100 kWh blocks as you choose.
Your support of this program is an endorsement
of CFU's commitment to the environment. The level
of community support will help determine how much
renewable energy CFU adds to its portfolio in
the future.
I want
to support wind energy.
