CFU Will Be Processing Checks as Electronic Payments
in March
Beginning March 10,
Cedar Falls Utilities will begin processing most checks we receive from
customers as electronic payments, through a process called check conversion.
This means we will use the information from your check to make a one-time
electronic withdrawal from your account to pay your utility bill.
When we convert your check to an electronic payment, funds may be withdrawn from
your account on the same day that we receive your check. You will not receive
your check back with your bank statement, but the statement will list the check
number, the date of payment and the amount of the payment to CFU. Your financial
institution or CFU can provide a copy of your check for up to two years upon
request.
Check conversion has been in place for five years and is widely used by
retailers such as Wal-Mart and The Gap. Businesses are required to notify
customers 30 days in advance of starting to use check conversion, so a notice
has been printed on all utility bills since early February.
If you would like to know more about check conversion, contact CFU Customer
Services at 268-5280, or
